Outdoor woodwork like decks and fences are really useful additions to a property, but like everything else that gets exposed to the elements in a four season climate like in Toronto they can take a beating. Subsequently, they require maintenance.
Decks and fences collect dirt, grime, and mildew over time. This can cause them to change colour and/or to go grey from the natural weathering process. Luckily, we have options when it comes to refurbishing, protecting, and prolonging the life of your investment in a wood fence or deck!
The process begins with cleaning by pressure washing, in which we can remove dirt and grime regardless of how old the deck or fence is using high pressure water. We are also able to pre-treat with a cleaning solution depending on the application. As long as the underlying wood is solid, we can work on the surface cleaning. Once the wood is clean, we allow the wood to dry for at least 2 sunny days before we apply the sealer. On surfaces that are highly touched by hand, like handrails we will sand, as necessary, before applying the sealer.
The job of the sealer is to protect the wood surface from the elements and dirt accumulation. Our preferred sealing product is eco friendly and allows the wood to breathe while providing a water repellent surface. It also allows the natural tones of the wood to show through while still providing protection.
The end result can be surprising. We have had clients think that they should be removing an old deck only to fall in love with it all over again after a thorough cleaning.
