kitchen cabinets with fridge before cabinet modification to fit new fridge

Problem(s):
Old cabinet is too short for new fridge. Modify an upper cabinet to fit a taller fridge.

Solution(s):
Sometimes, we can modify and shorten the cabinet box and sometimes it makes more sense to build a new cabinet. This really depends on the application and specific situation.

To properly execute this type of job and make it look like the cabinet and doors were original, we would need to have new doors made and paint or stain them to match. This means having the style of the existing doors reproduced. The more complex the style or profile of the doors, the more costly this will be. Other alternatives are using a different door style for the modified cabinet or leaving the cabinet open (without doors) to serve as a display area or open storage space.

Common Repair Request(s):
Why can’t you just cut the cabinet and doors and screw them back together to fit the new fridge?

The easiest/best case scenario is if the cabinet doors are flat panel style. In this case, the doors can be trimmed at the top where the cut is hidden. However, even in this case, we would still need to dismantle and rebuild the cabinet and remount the doors/hinges.

If the cabinet doors have a profile or are a raised panel style, then there is no easy way to cut and rejoin the doors without being able to see the cut. In this case, a new door (or doors) would need to be fabricated and installed.
